Greater Lansing Linux User Group

This is our beer, fermenting merrily away in my basement. The dunkelweizen is the nasty looking mess in the glass carbouy. While it looks ugly, I assure you that all beer looks really ugly at this stage, and it will taste just wonderful. We all sampled the extract on the day of, and it was very sweet with a rich malty taste.

Today was brewing day, pretty much our last chance to brew beer before Penguicon. Jeff, Marshal, Ariel and Stan converged upon my house this morning at 10am. The plan for the day was to brew a Dunkel Weizen (a dark wheat beer) and a Stout kit that Jeff picked up from Things Beer.

So, things have been slow around here lately, here being the web and the mailing list. I'm not too sure if the meetings have been slow, I haven't been to one since the move to the Library. Working in Novi does tend to keep one distanced from doing things at 6pm in Lansing.

I could, I suppose, join something around here (8pm on Tuesday and I'm still at work)...but, nah, I prefer you guys, and Penguicon and such. Hrm, what CAN I do.

I know, I'll expand on my duties! :)

I'm having trouble with the mailing list, so I'm raising the alarm bells here. Per the ConCom (and Jer in particular) there is no Brazilian Beef planned for this year. Nobody wanted to step up to run it, and honestly I can't see that any real effort was made to recruit somebody. Consequently it was cut from the budget.

Arrangements have been made to hold our weekly meetings in the third-floor conference room of the downtown Lansing branch of the public library, beginning September 18th. The library is located at the corner of Capitol and Kalamazoo, and Capitol Avenue is one-way southbound there. You may find directions to the library at its website, http://www.cadl.org.

After a rousting game of Stepmania with me, Rhouser realized that he never made a post about the fact that this is our last week at Ted-Dee's Sandwich Shop.

Let me make this clearer: This is our LAST WEEK at Ted-Dee's Sandwich Shop!

As of right now, there are the possibilities of:

Starting on August 7th, our meetings will once again be at Ted-Dee's Sandwich Shop in downtown Lansing at 6:30 pm. Tomorrow night is the last night of the blues festival. Ted said that we should park to the north, possibly in the state lot. He also said that the shop is not as busy as he thought it might be, so we should not have any issues. I hope to see you all there.

After many threads on the mailing list it has become official that at the very least our next two meetings will be at Bells Pizza.

Due to some event conflicts downtown, we have moved our regular meeting location from Ted Dee's back to the Ideal Solutions / ACD.net building until future notice. The conflicting events will last through sometime in August.

As posted on the calendar, we will be having a BBQ outing in place of the typical downtown meeting this Thursday. Directions, etc. are posted with the event.
